4 fall trends for 2021
Fall is synonymous with bright colours and crisp weather. With numerous international fashion shows and the 2021 Silmo Paris having just concluded, our team has had fun identifying which trends will be hot this fall. Here are 4 trends to look out for this season.
1. Minimalism
Minimalist design in fashion and makeup is all the rage this season. In tandem with the “nude” makeup trend, subtle frames are a simple, yet sophisticated way of highlighting your eyes.
Many frames in this season’s collections are made with transparent acetate, refined steel, and ultralight Japanese titanium. Best of all, titanium is not only a high-end material, it’s also hypoallergenic.
If you want to go with a subdued pair of frames, like those crafted by ba&sh, Kliik denmark, Chloé, and Morel pictured above, you’ll probably be tempted to go with a dazzling pair of lenses.
And when you think dazzling, think photochromic lenses! Because they’re available in a wide range of colours and finishes, there are endless ways to add a bit of pizzazz to your minimalist frames.
In fact, Transitions XTRActive Polarized lenses took home a Silmo d’Or in the “Vision” category. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, XTRActive new generation lenses are activated even more quickly when exposed to UV rays for optimal protection when driving. These are also the darkest light intelligent lenses in sunny weather. Despite remaining clear when indoors, Transitions still offer the best protection for your eyes when exposed to the blue light of screens.
2. New frame designs
Eyewear designers continue to innovate for the 2021-2022 fall/winter season with frames that are a perfect blend of simplicity, comfort, and sophistication.
As you can see with the models below, brands are reinventing the traditional frame structure and look of the classic pair of glasses by adding unexpected elements.
Below are models by Chloé, Fysh, Koali, Nomad, and Ogä which incorporate overlapping elements and different textures for attention-grabbing results. These designers cleverly use untethered components and depth to play around with the notion of perspective and 3D without making their frames any less sophisticated.
The secret to creating an exceptional product is to redefine the basics of its design. Just like an architect who wants to plan a one-of-a-kind building, myriad eyewear designers are focused on revamping the technical components that make up a pair of frames.
By working with new materials, shapes, and colours or by putting a new spin on traditional parts (such as the bridge), eyewear designers have been able to redefine what a pair of glasses can look like.
3. Going old school
We all know that when it comes to fashion, trends are cyclical and that the past can be a great source of inspiration. This is true for Gucci as you can see with the models below. These extra-large frames inspired by the 60s and 70s are part of new collections. Notice the large logo, a nod to the brand’s heritage.
This trend is an homage to nostalgia but it’s also an opportunity to revamp the classics and push the boundaries of the industry.
Huge frames are back in style and even though this trend is referred to as vintage, brands have blended materials (such as thick acetate) with bold shapes and colours to produce a beautiful balance of retro and modern.
4. Embracing the eccentric
In contrast to the vintage trend, it’s time to look to the future. You might have noticed more and more extravagant frames that look like they’d be right at home as a prop in a science-fiction film.
Many brands are embracing this style which are a direct, albeit very creative, response to our digital world. The result is perfect for any active, connected lifestyle.
As you can see with the models below, you don’t need to be a celebrity to go with a colourful pair of frames. And you don’t need to be a professional athlete to go with a sporty look.
