Our dedication to environmental sustainability
More and more consumers are seeking ways to reduce their environmental impact. No matter how big or small, the actions we take add up to make a difference on the planet we are borrowing from future generations. But is it possible to remain fashion-forward while doing your part for the environment? Absolutely! Here are some examples of brands that have an eye on the future.
Making the environment a priority There are numerous steps involved in producing and distributing contact lenses. But new, innovative technology is helping brands reduce their environmental impact. With the right materials, packaging, and waste management processes – or through the purchase of plastic credits – many brands in the optical industry have been making efforts to be more environmentally friendly. |
The starting point: raw materials
The environmental impact of producing glasses stems in part from the materials used. More and more brands are turning to sustainable resources such as bio-acetate, castor oil, biodegradable plant-based resins, plastic from recycled water bottles, and more, to produce their frames and lenses.
In addition to eco-friendly materials, several eyewear companies have begun collaborating with environmental associations. For instance, Morel has partnered with “Plantons pour l’avenir” and holds “Green Weeks” during which each pair of glasses sold contributes to the reforestation of territories in France.
Green collections
Eco-friendly practices are much more than a trend. They’re now an intricate part of our daily lives. If you want to make sustainable choices in terms of your eyewear, here are a few examples of green lines available in our clinics:
- Dragon: every pair of Upcycled frames is made from 5 bottles of plastic
- Esprit: a tree is planted for every pair of ECOllection frames sold
- OTP: a brand that sells frames made from bio-acetate and cases made from cork
- ALLPOETS: a company that sells frames made with materials from natural and renewable sources as well as recycled materials
- I-Man: their processes are constantly improved and redesigned to reduce their impact on the environment
- Chloé: a certified B Corporation company that produces bio-acetate frames
Here are some of our team’s top picks from these collections:

What about contact lenses?
Myriad brands are currently reviewing their processes to make them more environmentally friendly. Contact lens producers are also doing their part. For instance, CooperVision has reduced their waste and implemented processes to recycle and reuse cardboard packaging. They’re also the first brand to produce contact lenses that are net plastic neutral.
